Abi Elphinstone – 10 Questions

Abi
Abi Elphinstone is a children’s author. Her debut book, The Dreamsnatcher, was published in 2015 by Simon & Schuster. The Shadow Keeper is the sequel to The Dreamsnatcher and will be out in early 2016.

Maelor, aged 7, met up with Abi Elphinstone at the 2015 Just So Festival in Cheshire and had great fun chatting, laughing and playing with catapults. Then it was down to business. 10 questions were asked. 10 answers were given. Here they are:

10 Questions
Maelor: What would be your favourite breakfast?

Abi: I really like eggs. It would be a bagel with a fried egg and crispy bacon. And a banana milkshake. Actually… I might change my mind – I have relatives in Canada who makes pancakes filled with bacon and maple syrup! Yum.

Maelor: What is your favourite joke?
Abi: I don’t know why, but my friends keep telling cheese jokes. Like “What cheese do you use to get a bear out of a cage? Camembert!” and another one is “What cheese greets itself in the mirror? Halloumi!”

Maelor: If you could invent an animal made of the parts of 3 other animals, what would it be?
Abi: It would have the wings of a dragon, the head of an eagle and the tail of a mermaid!

Maelor: Scone or Scone?
Abi: Sconn!

Maelor: Do you have any bad habits?
Abi: I have a habit of telling punchlines first. And I’m always jumping on things that I’m probably not supposed to, like desks at school! I also tend to giggle at really inappropriate times.

MaelorMaelor: If you could choose your own name, what would it be?

Abi: I really like Lyra, which is the name of a character in Northern Lights (by Philip Pullman)

Maelor: Can you invent a word and its definition?
Abi: “Moontrug” – a giggly hopeless person with webbed feet!

Maelor: What superpower would you like?
Abi: Definitely to fly.

Maelor: What question would you like to be asked (but haven’t before)?
Abi: Would you rather be an elephant the size of a duck, or a duck the size of an elephant?

Maelor: Do you have a question for us?
Abi: If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be?
Maelor: Baymax (from Big Hero Six)

Modelling Clay: During the interview, Abi was given the challenge to make anything out of a lump of modelling clay. Although this post may not contain photographic evidence, she made an awesome catapult – and Maelor made an awesome ‘Baymax’!

Maelor’s Review of The Dreamsnatcher:

Note: The Dreamsnatcher is usually recommend for 8/9 years and above, though brave 7yr olds have been known to come through unscathed! Maelor is one of them and has written a succinct review in his owns words below.
